About the RDC

Welcome to the Racing Drivers Club website. As an integral part of the Northern California road racing scene since 1957, our motto, “dedicated to the safety, quality, and enhancement of the San Francisco Region racing experience”, says it all; we are about service and support  to the racer and worker community.

You can find us at each of our three Northern California tracks, Laguna Seca, Infineon, and of course Thunderhill, working upfront to make each event the very best in amateur road racing.

This site will give you background on us, our  ongoing programs, and provide links to the Northern California racing community. We welcome you.

History

The Racing Drivers Club was founded in 1957, and has been integral part of the Northern California road racing scene since inception.

The Racing Drivers Club is more than just the sponsor of the annual RDC Illgen Enduro held at the end of each season. The RDC is active in its continuing  support of  Road Racing in Northern California and the the San Francisco Region of the SCCA with many ongoing programs. These include help for new drivers with the Driver Development Program, help for ongoing drivers with our Mentoring Program, and help for the Region with the Driver Observer Program. For visiting drivers who are new to our Northern California tracks, and for recent graduates of teh Driving School, the RDC hosts a Morning Drive Around orientation program.

The  Will Pool Memorial Scholarship annually sends deserving Region members to the Spring Drivers School at Thunderhill with full tuition and a race ready car provided. Applicants are usually selected from either the Worker specialties or the Autocross program, based on their service to the Region.

The RDC also funds improvements to facilities, to programs that enhance the racing experience and enjoyment  of  a racing weekend.  The RDC constructed the weight scales pads at Thundehill, funded upgrades the communications system, and installed the environmentally safe parts washing station by the fuel pumps.  In 2012, the RDC made a major contribution to purchasing and installing new turn station signal lights at Thunderhill.  We have sponsored the No-Contact Challenge awards program and also support the Region’s annual Festival Race with awards to the selected race group. The Worker Performance Award perpetual trophy, the Good Guy of the Year award, and the President’s Cup trophy are given annually and displayed in the RDC trophy  case at the Thunderhill Clubhouse. Currently, the RDC is providing enhanced funding for food and beverage upgrades at all Thunderhill evening post race Socials.

In addition to service activities, the RDC conducts its own points series for members with awards and trophies, and gives a years free RDC membership to new graduates of the Region Spring Drivers School.

And of course, there is the annual RDC Illgen 4 hour Enduro.
